Containerterminal(CT)operationsareoftenbottleneckedbyslowYC(yardcrane)movements.Efficient
YC schedulingtoreducethePMwaitingtimeisthereforecriticalinincreasingaCT’sthroughput.This
paper developsanefficientcontinuoustimeMILPmodelforYCscheduling.Themodeltreatsrealistic
operationalconstraintssuchasmultipleinter-craneinterference,fixedYCseparationdistances,
simultaneouscontainerstorage/retrievals,realisticYCacceleration/decelerationstagesandgantry
time, andrequirefarfewerintegervariablesthanpreviouswork.Themodelsignificantlyimprovesthe
solution qualitycomparedtotheexistingdiscretetimemodelsandotherheuristicsfoundinthe
literature.Usingheuristicsandarolling-horizonalgorithm,ourmodelcansolveactualcontaineryard
(CY) problemsquicklyandrobustlyinpolynomialtime.Also,tocopewiththelastminutecontainer
arrivalswhichcandisruptroutineCToperations,twomethodsforhandlingtheselastminutejob
insertionsarediscussedandcompared
